Like most people, I love music. The perfect song can get my day started on the right note, it can take my sulking game to a whole new level when I'm bummed, and it can inspire me to write when I hit my midday slump. However, for as much as I love music, I'm terrible at finding new music. I tend to make a playlist and then listen to it on repeat for weeks (or months!). This month, though, I spent a few days searching for new music and going through old playlists and this shiny new playlist was born. There are only 12 songs and a few of them are over twenty-years-old, but here it is nonetheless. (I embedded the video down below, or you can click here.)
Please share your thoughts with me in the comments! What are you listening to right now? Let me know if you like this post and I'll try to do more like it in the future!
1) Radiohead - Creep (Cover) by Daniela Andrade
Covers are great. They take an old song that you love and make it sound all pretty and new. This one is particularly gorgeous.
2) Troye Sivan - Wild
This album was just released in September, so I'm actually somewhat current with this song! (Yay for me!)
3) Julia and the Doogans - Down the Line
I love Spotify because you can look up artists that you adore and find other artists that are similar. That is how I found out about Julia and the Doogans. This song gives me a warm feeling in my chest every time I hear it. Sounds cheesy, but it's true.
4)Jimmy Fontana - Il Mondo
I heard this song while watching the movie About Time. Anyone seen it? It's amazing! While this song may seem rather out of place on this playlist, it is actually very good! There is something about listening to this song while curled up with a crochet blanket and a mug of green tea that is relaxing to me.
5) The Young Romans - New Beginnings
I have no idea where or when I heard this song, but it is upbeat and has a nice, positive message. Win Win.
6) Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
I found this song on one of my old playlists and had to add it to this one because it is a classic!
7) The Rocketboys - Loud & Clear
I adore The Rocketboys. (They are coming to Houston on November 1st and I'm hoping to be able to go see them!) I first heard The Rocketboys when they were touring with Relient K in summer 2013, and I loved them immediately. They are one of my favorite bands (I even own a t-shirt!). The EP this song is on, Left Right, came out in 2014 and every song on it is perfect. Listen, love, and listen again. You're welcome.
8) Lana Del Rey - Music To Watch Boys To
I'm going to tell you what I think the biggest mystery in life is--that everyone isn't always listening to Lana Del Rey. It's baffling. Show me a Lana Del Rey song I don't like and I'll show you a song that doesn't exist. That's right. Every song she writes is magic. This one is on her newest album (look at me, being current again!), Honeymoon. Go listen to it right now. Well, after you finish this playlist.
9) The Cure - Friday I'm In Love
The Cure. Enough said, right? Yeah, that's what I thought.
10) Right the Stars - Give It All
Remember that warm feeling in my chest I talked about? This one does it, too. His deep voice touches my soul. This is a song that isn't too abrasive or too hard to listen to. It is very easy to go about your business with it on in the background and it's very nice.
11) Jaymes Young & Phoebe Ryan - We Won't
This is another artist I found because I looked for artists similar to Lana Del Rey on Spotify. This song just has a nice sound. I know, shocking, right? I don't have much of an explanation. I just like it. Maybe you'll like it, too.
12) Of Monsters and Men - Mountain Sound
This song was released in 2012, but I actually just heard it not too long ago, which is a tragedy! I'll keep it short because I have years of jamming out to make up for! *head bangs wildly*
